Ghost Town

Man, this place certainly died out! Seems strange, but I guess people get older and don't have the time to hang out on the computer as much. I saw there was not even a link to the forums on the new site build-up, which is beautiful, by the way. Anyways, I came here for a Portal 2 question, and I see there is no guide for it, which is fine as I've passed the stage already. I was just wondering how the stage is supposed to be completed because I'm about 95% sure I got lucky and used a glitch I found to be a level. Well, I suppose I'll ask my question in the appropriate thread.

What's everyone up to?

I feel like it's been such a long time, and I haven't been able to keep up with all of you, but I've missed it, so, what are you up to? Graduated? Girlfriend/boyfriend? Job? Live in a new city? Recent vacations?

I'm doing my best to balance motherhood and work. It's proven to be quite challenging, but more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. Just so you all know, babies are awesome. They really, really are.

While we're still doing Lunabean things (Arkham Asylum anyone?), we're in the process of launching http://www.lunabeanmedia.com , a social media agency. Who would have thought our bad ass message board skills would give us the opportunity to say, "We've been growing our business with social media for ten years"?

Um...I think that's it. Oh, the water treatment plant that isn't too far away from us reeks of poop right now...so I'm smelling that as I type. Just thought I'd set the scene for you.

use W and S for gas and brake/reverse, and grab/rotate the steering wheel for steering. Drive through lakes to collect fish, and through berry bushes to get berries. Put the fish or berries next to your face to eat them. It's a good idea to toss skeletons/rocks/leaves/pine cones/badgers out the sunroof of your car so they don't clutter it up too much

Hurricane Katrina Memory

Just saw a minute of video footage from the wake of Katrina on The Rachel Maddow Show during her interview with Tom Ridge. It was the first time since we had Bea that I saw the woman with the hat on backwards holding her lethargic 8-10 month old who says, "Look at how hot he is. He's not waking up very easily." My heart broke all over again, and this time, as a parent, even more.

And then that got me thinking about the band of kids (ages 2 - 7 if I remember) who couldn't find their parents. They wandered around, the oldest taking care of the youngest, growing up in an instant.

My God.

I still think that our nation is in a state of PTSD from 9/11, Katrina, and Iraq. We are currently in the "denial" stage and those little moments when you see something that reminds you of it just breaks your heart all over again and really puts things in perspective. I'm sad.

I'm takin' a trip.

I've been planning a drive up north for quite a long time now. These plans are now beginning to form and become something. As of a month ago I've asked for 2 weeks off at the end of August. From August 16-27th I will be in either Portland or Seattle. As I've come to understand over the years, quite a few of you good people may or may not live in these general areas. If you do, I would quite like to possibly have a little meet up or even a dinner or lunch or whatever. Show me around even. Think that would all be quite nice.

As for my trip, I don't honestly have any sort of game plan for the day to day for any leg of the first week of the trip. I'm pretty much just taking a 17 hour drive up on the 16th and doing something in Portland. I have no idea. It's all pretty overwhelming, honestly. I've thought about doing this for a few years and yet here it is in a month and I have not a single plan on what I'm going to really be doing when I get there. Or where I'm staying, either frankly. I'd plan on staying a few days in Portland first, probably the 16th to the 19th or so. Then at that point I'd climb back into the car and trek up into Seattle and do pretty much the same unknown plans there as I did in Portland from the 19/20th to the 23rd . I have a bit of a better idea of Seattle since it has a few grander touristy spots that I know about than in Portland (which, I'll no doubt find out about). The only real thing I'd like to do is have an awkward meet up with a few of you Lunabean fellows. Other than that it's just me lost in two big cities looking for a place to stay.

As for the second week, my brother might be joining me in one of two cities depending on where I'm currently at. So, I'd like to do any of the creepy internet in person meetings the first week since my brother doesn't really follow that sort of thing. My mom keeps asking if I've done a full background check of all of you. Internet is full of creeps and serial killers, by the way. Anyway, the second week will be more brothers bonding trip with some hanging out with my uncle in Portland thing (which I might do some of the first week too, I again have no idea) from the 23rd to the 27th. At that point my brother and I will be again packing into the car and driving back down the 101 through all the majestic redwoods and what not and ending up in San Fransisco for the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival at the Golden Gate Park from the 28th-30th. I thought that would be a nice little topper to a two week vacation in two weird cities I'm totally lost in. Then I'd take him home to Santa Barbara, stay the night there, and then drive back to the shitstain that is Bakersfield to be at work on Monday the 31st at some point.

So, ultimately what this is all about is thus;
August 16 through the 23 I will be in Portland/Seattle on my very own. Lets do something if you want and have the time.
