I don't know if this is news elsewhere, as Hollywood Video is a local company, but Blockbuster is playing pretty dirty. I guess I've never witnessed a hostile takeover in action.

Oh, and the article mentions that Blockbuster dropped its online monthly rental fee to $14.99...a move warning NetFlix and Wal-Mart that they are determined to dominate in online rentals, too.

I was told by someone that the guy that started up Hollywood Video had originally owned Blockbuster.

That sucks. I always rent my movies from Hollywood. There monthly rental program is also $15.00 a month buy you do have to return them within five days, I don't know Blockbusters policy on it.

Just to comment more on Blockbuster, I have seen several commercials saying that there are no longer late fees for movies and games and they didn't specify that it was a special membership so I assume it was for a regular rental.
Also, I like Hollywood Video and always rent from them.

Thanks for pointing that out. When you keep the movie too long, how much are you buying it for?

you pay the original price...

also, we have at least 2 hollywood videos here in 'sconsin... so, I guess it's not THAT local. just so you know, it takes an average of 5 days to get a movie from Blockbuster's online thing. and only an avg of 2 from netflix...

"Local" was meant in a "the headquarters are here" type way. Just like Nike is a "local" company. And Intel. And Columbia. Yeah...

I saw a realtor sign outside our Blockbuster and was excited that it may be on the market. Guess not. I like Hollywood Video better anyway. They're nicer there than at Blockbuster and after reading this, I don't plan to go back to Blockbuster. Of course, funny thing is like the day before Blockbuster was to open here, it had a huge fire and burned to the ground. It was the wiring, the construction company forgot to do something and it burned. All their movies were already set up and everything. It was classic.
